Astros Manager Cecil Cooper Uses Every Excuse in the Book For No-Hitter
Astros Manager Cecil Cooper is using every excuse in the book for why his team was no-hit on Sunday night by the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano.
''It was a long travel day and Hurricane Ike,'' Astros manager Cecil Cooper told the Associated Press. ''That's what I put it on. That and having two days off. I'm not saying he wasn't good."
Having two days off? The Chicago Cubs also had two days off, while Zambrano was pitching on 12 days rest. If anything, the Astros had a slight advantage over Zambrano, who was returning from a mild injury.
''This is not a home game," Cooper continued. "This is definitely an advantage for the Cubs and that's saying it as mildly as possible."
Miller Park is jokingly referred to as "Wrigley North"--I'll give him that. It was easier for Cubs fans to make it to the game, but, given the circumstances, the stadium was still only half-filled. The Cubs haven't seen a home no-hitter since 1972, and have never seen a home no-hitter under the lights at Wrigley. Those droughts will continue. It looks like "Wrigley North" will have to suffice for the time being.

What homers you guys are to acuse our manager of crying and making excuses. Not only is it a Cubs home game, any of the "neutral fans" that bothered to show up surely have enough sense to realize that the Brewers aren't catching you guys, but rather letting the wild card slip to the Astros, Phillies, or Cardinals. But I guess that's what happens when the commissioner is the previous owner of a franchise. Thanks for looking out for Houston in a time of crisis Bud (Selig). And just so you midwesterners know, having two days off due to a HURRICANE isn't really off days at all. How do you suppose the Astros spent their time off compared to the Cubs players. I love baseball and all, but you have to draw the line somewhere. When a team is dealing with something of this magnitude, it's not nice to pile on. I thought the Cubs had a chance to go all the way this year. So enjoy your no-hitter, because carma is a funny thing.

To be fair, though, Chicago experienced record 7-inch rains and flooding of the Chicago River this past weekend. I'm not sure how the Chicago players spent their two days off compared to the Houston Astros, but I don't believe that either team had an easy weekend off.

Wooooow that first commenter was an idiot. Not ganna lie.
You really can't take that no hitter away from Z. That's something that's an amazing feat and whether it was done in milwaukee or houston... its fantastic. It was the way they pitched.. I believe they could've pitched that way anywhere.

What does karma have to do with anything? The Cubs weren't putting any ill will on anyone. They played great. That doesn't make any sense. How is a no-hitter going to come back and bite them?
